“Our grandmother, a seamstress from the Philippines, taught us everything we know,” says Nanette Sullano, half of the L.A.-based sibling design-duo Bon & Ging.
Everything about Nanette and her sister Grace’s line, now in its second season, hints at the importance of history in their designs from the naming of the company (after their childhood nicknames) to their sultry, intricately tailored silhouettes based on the screen sirens of Hollywood’s golden era (think Mary Astor’s puffed bishop-sleeved jackets in The Maltese Falcon, the soaring, stiff collars sported by Lauren Bacall in The Big Sleep, and Veronica Lake’s plunging necklines in A Gun For Hire).
The girls landed a spot at the second-ever Gen Art show at L.A. Fashion Week in October which, if history is any indication, means we’ll be seeing quite a bit of them in the future. NN
